Organic vs Paid Traffic


It's Sunday night and Halloween weekend got the best of me, so as I baby sit this hangover I want to talk to you about an interesting discovery I've made.

This discovery can literally change the game for many people who solely do organic marketing on TikTok.

Even better if you're a TikTok Shop affiliate or brand.

But if you also do paid traffic, you might want to listen to this too.

If you're not familiar with TikTok Shop, it's a marketplace that TikTok created that allows for creators in the platform to promote products.

The products are usually owned by brands who start their own shop on the platform.

TikTok has made it super easy to scale a brand by simply using creators.

And creators can get commission on the sale ranging from 15% to 50%, along with some crazy incentives like free iPhones, MacBooks or even cars like a Lamborghini Urus can be won if you can sell a certain amount for some brands.

TikTok Shop right is the wild wild west.

Most creators simply post videos or do livestreams showcasing the products and let TikTok supply the traffic organically.

If a video gets views, you can get loads of sales.

But if it doesn't, you might some sales or none at all.

Now this raises an important question... is the algorithm 100% right?

Is the video that was given traffic by the TikTok algorithm the best video for generating sales?

For a while, I thought that must be the case, but now I am not 100% sure about that anymore.

Personally, I think the algorithm picks incorrectly a lot of times.

My proof?

Well, if you actually let a brand run paid traffic on a video that didn't go viral usually you get sales, loads of them.

(side note: on TikTok brands can actually request to run paid traffic on any organic videos made by a creator)

So what does this mean?

It means that the algorithm is not as smart people think, at least not for finding the actual videos that are the most optimal for conversions.

This means that for people who solely run organic traffic on TikTok, maybe it's time for you to spend some money on your own videos that didn't get that many views but got sales.

You might be pleasantly surprised at the CPA you might be able to get.

And for the folks who solely run paid traffic, I highly suggest you get on top of early organic trends as those tend to perform really well on paid platforms.

I believe that style of conspiracy creative in Spanish will be more widespread in the next couple of months on paid platforms.

I know, I know what kind of weirdo thinks of this stuff when babysitting a hangover.

But these are my Sunday thoughts.
